Junior Club Championships 2018

The Junior Club Championships will be held across a number of Races and Time Trials from April to September.  We will award trophies to the first 3 places in each TriStar category and gender.  The scoring system and events are listed below.  Dates have been chosen to avoid all League races on Saturdays.

The awards ceremony and barbeque will be held at Thetford Forest on Saturday 6th October.

Parents – for each event and Time Trial we will need plenty of helpers for marshalling, timing etc., so there will be a call for volunteers nearer the time.

The following scoring system will be used:

There will be a total of 6 scores for each junior from 2 races, 3 time trials -  cycling, swimming and running, plus a bonus 50 points for taking part in any Eastern Region League race.

For each race and time trial 50 points will be awarded for the 1st (boy and girl) in each age group, 47 points for 2nd place, 45 points for 3rd, 44 points for 4th etc.
The best two scores of the three races available (Rob McLean Tri, Club Duathlon and Club Aquathlon) will be taken, so, any junior that takes part in all three races has a better chance of doing well.

Each junior must take part in at least one Time Trial for each of swimming, running and cycling to get a score for that discipline. There will be a choice of 2 dates for each discipline.  An individual’s best time for each discipline counts towards the score.

To encourage competing across the region anyone taking part in a League race (Aquathlon, Duathlon or Triathlon) will score 50 points (irrespective of the result).  Only the first external race that you take part in will score – i.e. taking part in the whole League still only scores 50 points. Note that our own race the Rob McLean and the Club Duathlon will not count as an external race.

In the event of a tie the best result from the Rob McLean or Club Duathlon race will be used as the decider – so it is important to take part in at least one of these! Should it be equal after this then it will be an equal first place.

Event Schedule

Note that Time Trials will be held in TriStar category based on age, not our normal Saturday training squads.

Club Duathlon

This year we are going to include a practice Duathlon at IVC. This will replace the Walden Triathlon in the Club Championships as the event is not able to run this year. This will be held as part of an extended training session and will not require pre-entry. We will send out more details nearer the time.

Rob Mclean Youth Triathlon (IRC Qualifier)

This is our annual Eastern Region race which is also an Eastern Region IRC Qualifier. Entry has already opened and can be found by copying the following link into your browser.

Cambridge Aquathlon

This is the annual inter-club competition race with Walden Triathlon Club, as well as our annual end of season family Aquathlon. Entry will be through the club nearer the time. The venue is Bottisham Village College.

Time Trials

Note that Time Trials will be conducted in TriStar race category groups rather than our training squads. The best score in each discipline across both trials will count. All distances will depend upon the category.

Swimming Time Trials

These will be held at IVC during Saturday morning training from 9 to 10am. Distance will vary by TriStar category and will be similar to normal race distances.

Running Time Trials

These will be held on the IVC playing field on a Saturday morning between 7:45 and 9am before the swimming Time Trial. Distances will vary between 1 and 3 km depending upon TriStar category.

Cycling Time Trials

We plan to be able to hold these at Waterbeach Barracks which will provide a traffic free cycling circuit suitable for all age groups. Distances will vary between 2km and 6km depending upon TriStar category.
